Fencing and Branding

Though the area where the Rawsons lived later became an important sugar growing district, The Hollow was originally taken up as a cattle station. Hamilton Station was a neighbouring property owned by the Martin family, hence the complaints from Charles about the lack of assistance from the “Hamilton fellows” in erecting the fences. Fencing was an important part of the improvements on the land as failure to achieve these often led to forfeiture.
