Winifred the Seamstress

Obviously the isolation of The Hollow meant that the Rawsons turned their hands to activities that they may not have done in England. Winifred is very proud of her efforts at dressmaking, probably receiving fabric and patterns in The Box from home.

Charles' comment about connecting the lathe to Winifred’s sewing machine to make it go faster had a great deal more foresight than he realised.

INSIDE ‘I say Charley couldn’t you manage to work this sewing machine with the lathe? It is such a nuisance having to turn it by hand!’ OUTSIDE ‘All right old lady! Bring it out here & I’ll turn it at a pace that it never went before!’
